Artist and storyteller, Bob Stayton captures the American wilderness and the magic of the west in bronze sculpture. His sculptural portrayals are of personal experiences with the people and animals depicted and each is a story cast in bronze. f Welsh-Irish and Cherokee decent, Bob was raised on a small farm on the east front of the Rocky Mountains in Montana. His life was filled with the adventures a young boy can easily find in "Charlie Russell" country.Bob started his formal art training at the age of six, under the guidance of a private art teacher. Drawings and watercolors of the scenery, wildlife and farm animals were the subjects of his beginning years. Horses dominated Bob's life and he became an accomplished rider at an early age.He spent his teen years in the remote Centennial Valley of southwestern Montana, working as a ranch hand and honing his riding skills. Bob's artistic eye helped him store mental images of ranch life, the stock, the wild animals and scenery that surrounded him while moving the herds.A serious riding accident ended his intended career as a professional jockey. Unable to continue riding, Bob headed for college and earned a bachelor of science degree from Montana State University. Design and architecture was the course of study, he graduated with majors in design and art education.Bob has had several careers, soon after graduation, he worked as a teacher, then as an industrial designer. He had a long career as an interior business/commercial designer and holds an I.B.D. certification.Throughout his life, Bob has maintained his ties with his native Montana and has chosen to stay close to his early roots in the "Big Sky Country."In 1980, with three sons well into their own careers, he chose to pursue his fine art career full time. Since that time, Bob has created many award winning works inBob lives in the Flathead Valley of western Montana so he can be close to the foundry where his works are cast. Bob is personally involved in every aspect of the sculptures he creates. The influence of his early encounters with nature combined with his bold Celtic and sensitive American Indian heritage form the foundation upon which Bob's works are based. Bob's sculptures are imbued with a unique blend of form, balance, rhythm, color and style that brings to life the clear primitive beauty of each piece. He looks forward to a visit if you are ever in Bigfork. Bob continues to produce original works as well as casting pieces for sale from the many current editions. He has more than 60 original edition sculptures still available. Several of his works have sold out editions. The process of investment casting a sculpture in bronze is fascinatingly complex and interesting.
